Week #156; Wed, Dec 23: Revelation 15:1–22:21

Revelation 15:1; I. The Seven Angels with Seven Plagues

I. KEY TEXT (The Seven Angels with Seven Plagues): “Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is finished.” (15:1)
A. INFERENCE: “And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire–and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, ‘Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations! Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.'” (15:2-4)
1. FINDINGS: “After this I looked, and the sanctuary of the tent of witnesses in heaven was opened, and out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven plagues, clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests.” (15:5-6)
2. CRITERIA: “And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever, and the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.” (15:7-8)
3. CONDITION: “Clearly a prophecy of “the things which shall be hereafter,” and describes the future state of the church, from the time when the apostle beheld the visions here recorded.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
4. CAUSE: “As the measure of Babylon’s sins was filled up, it finds the full measure of Divine wrath. While believers stand in this world, in times of trouble, as upon a sea of glass mingled with fire, they may look forward to their final deliverance, while new mercies call forth new hymns of praise.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
5. EFFECT: “The more we know of God’s wonderful works, the more we shall praise his greatness as the Lord God Almighty, the Creator and Ruler of all worlds; but his title of Emmanuel, the King of saints, will make him dear to us. Who that considers the power of God’s wrath, the value of his favor, or the glory of his holiness, would refuse to fear and honor him alone? His praise is above heaven and earth.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “The greatest deliverances of the church are brought about by awful and astonishing steps of Providence; and the happy state of the true church will not begin till obstinate enemies shall be destroyed, and lukewarm or formal Christians are purified. Then, whatever is against Scripture being purged away, the whole church shall be spiritual, and the whole being brought to purity, unity, and spirituality, shall be firmly established.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)

Revelation 16:1; I. The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath

I. KEY TEXT (The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath): “Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven angels, ‘Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.’” (16:1)
A. INFERENCE: “So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and harmful and painful sores came upon the people who bore the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing died that was in the sea. The third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood. And I heard the angel in charge of the waters say, ‘Just are you, O Holy One, who is and who was, for you brought these judgments. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. It is what they deserve!’ And I heard the altar saying, ‘Yes, Lord God the Almighty, true and just are your judgments!’ The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch people with fire. They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues. They did not repent and give him glory. The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in anguish and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores. They did not repent of their deeds. The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east. And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs.” (16:2-13)
1. FINDINGS: “For they are demonic spirits, performing sign, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. (‘Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed.’) And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.” (16:14-16)
2. CRITERIA: “They are ministers of Divine justice, and do every thing in a pure and holy manner. They were armed with the wrath of God against his enemies. Even the meanest creature, when armed with the anger of God, will be too hard for any man in the world. The angels received the vials from one of the four living creatures, one of the ministers of the true church, as in answer to the prayers of the ministers and people of God.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
3. CONDITION: “Antichrist could not be destroyed without a great shock to all the world, and even the people of God would be in trouble and confusion while the great work was doing.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
4. CAUSE: “The greatest deliverances of the church are brought about by awful and astonishing steps of Providence; and the happy state of the true church will not begin till obstinate enemies shall be destroyed, and lukewarm or formal Christians are purified.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
5. EFFECT: “Then, whatever is against Scripture being purged away, the whole church shall be spiritual, and the whole being brought to purity, unity, and spirituality, shall be firmly established.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “He only is holy; we need the perfect cleansing and righteousness which He gives us, that we may dare to stand in His presence.” (F. B. Meyer Commentary)

Revelation 16:17; II. The Seventh Bowl

II. KEY TEXT (The Seventh Bowl): “The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, ‘It is done.’” (16:17)
A. INFERENCE: “And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake.” (16:17-18)
1. FINDINGS: “The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague was so severe.” (16:19-21)
2. CRITERIA: “The seventh and last angel poured forth his vial, and the downfall of Babylon was finished. The church triumphant in heaven saw it and rejoiced; the church in conflict on earth saw it and became triumphant. God remembered the great and wicked city; though for some time he seemed to have forgotten her idolatry and cruelty. All that was most secure was carried away by the ruin. Men blasphemed: the greatest judgments that can befall men, will not bring to repentance without the grace of God. To be hardened against God, by his righteous judgments, is a certain token of sure and utter destruction.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
3. CONDITION: “It makes us pause to hear that angels, who rejoice over one sinner that repenteth, are employed in these terrible judgments. It is very startling to hear their outspoken acquiescence in the plagues that vitiate the earth, sea, springs, and sun. The angel of the waters insists that God has judged righteously, and the altar, beneath which are the souls of the martyrs, assents.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
4. CAUSE: “Our softer age shrinks from such conceptions of the divine judgments, but it is likely that our standards are weakened and warped by our daily contact with what is earthly and human. God’s love is not soft and emasculated, but strong, vigorous, and righteous.” (F. B. Meyer Commentary)
5. EFFECT: “Only when we reach the land of light and glory, shall we understand the true horror of sin and the inveteracy of human apostasy. Then we also shall be able to take up those solemn words of endorsement in Rev.15:7, ‘Even so, Lord God, Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.’” (F. B. Meyer Commentary)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “The seal and trumpet judgments brought partial destruction and afforded opportunity for repentance. But the seven bowl judgments dispense 100 percent judgment and zero percent opportunity for repentance. All is at an end; the evil are evil and the righteous are righteous.” (Tyndale Concise Bible Commentary)

Revelation 17:1, I. The Great Prostitute and the Beast

I. KEY TEXT (The Great Prostitute and the Beast): “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, ‘Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk.’” (17:1-2)
A. INFERENCE: “And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality. And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: ‘Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.’ And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I marveled greatly. But the angel said to me, ‘Why do you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that carries her.’” (17:3-7)
1. FINDINGS: “The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come. This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while. As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast.” (17:8-13)
2. CRITERIA: “They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.” (17:14)
3. CONDITION: “And the angel said to me, ‘The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and languages. And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire, for God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one mind and handing over their royal power to the beast until the words of God are fulfilled. And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth.’” (17:15)
4. CAUSE: “The beast on which the woman sat was, and is not, and yet is. It was a seat of idolatry and persecution, and is not; not in the ancient form, which was pagan: yet it is; it is truly the seat of idolatry and tyranny, though of another sort and form. It would deceive into stupid and blind submission all the inhabitants of the earth within its influence, except the remnant of the elect.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
5. EFFECT: “Christ must reign till all enemies be put under his feet. The reason of the victory is, that he is the King of kings, and Lord of lords. He has supreme dominion and power over all things; all the powers of earth and hell are subject to his control. His followers are called to this warfare, are fitted for it, and will be faithful in it.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “Let us avoid the mysteries of iniquity, and study diligently the great mystery of godliness, that we may learn humility and gratitude from the example of Christ. The more we seek to resemble him, the less we shall be liable to be deceived by antichrist.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)

Revelation 18:1, I. The Fall of Babylon

I. KEY TEXT (The Fall of Babylon): “After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory.” (18:1)
A. INFERENCE: “And he called out with a mighty voice, ‘Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons, a haunt for every unclean spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast. For all nations have drunk the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of he earth have committed immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.’ Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, ‘Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; for her sins are heaped high as heavens and God has remembered her iniquities. Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds; mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed. As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart she says, ‘I sit as a queen, I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see.’ For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.’” (18:2-8)
1. FINDINGS: “And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning. They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say, ‘Alas! Alas! You great city, you mighty city, Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come.’” (18:9-10)
2. CRITERIA: “And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.” (18:11-13)
3. CONDITION: “The fruit for which your soul longed has gone from you, and all our delicacies and your splendors are lost to you, never to be found again! The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud, ‘Alas, alas, for the great city that was clothed in fine linen, in purple and scarlet, adorned with gold, with jewels, and with pearls! For in a single hour all this wealth ha been laid waste.’ And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, ‘What city was like the great city?’ And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out, ‘Alas, alas, for the great city where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! For in a single hour she has been laid waste.’” (18:14-19)
4. CAUSE: “Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!” (18:20)
5. EFFECT: “Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, ‘So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will be found no more; and the sound of harpist and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters, will be heard in you no more, and a craftsman of any craft will be found in you no more, and the sound of the mill will be heard in you no more, and the light of a lamp will shine in you no more, and the voice of bridegroom and bride will be heard in you no more, for your merchants were the great ones on the earth, and all nations were deceived by your sorcery. And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth.’” (18:21-24)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “The fall of Babylon was an act of God’s justice. And because it was a final ruin, this enemy should never molest them any more; of this they were assured by a sign. Let us take warning from the things which brought others to destruction, and let us set our affections on things above, when we consider the changeable nature of earthly things.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)

Revelation 19:1, I. Rejoicing in Heaven; II. The Marriage Supper of the Lamb; III. The Rider on a White Horse

I. KEY TEXT (Rejoicing in Heaven): “After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out, ‘Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for his judgments are true and just; for he has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality, and has avenged on her the blood of his servants.’ Once more they cried out, ‘Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.’” (19:1-3)
A. INFERENCE: “And the twenty-four elders and the four living creature fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, ‘Amen. Hallelujah!’ And from the throne came a voice saying, ‘Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.’” (19:4-5)
1. FINDINGS: “The church in heaven and that on earth triumph, and praise the Lord for his righteous judgments.” (19:1-10) (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
2. CRITERIA: “The blood of the saints has been avenged.” (Tyndale Concise Bible Commentary)
3. CONDITION: “Here, John describes the marriage of the Lamb and the marriage supper. The wedding feast (19:7–9) is a reference to the end of the long and sometimes painful engagement between Christ and his saints. It marks the beginning of the eternal unbroken marriage relationship of perfect fellowship and love. This vision is here to encourage the readers through their tribulations with the vision of their ultimate entrance into God’s glory. The study of prophecy should witness to Jesus, giving believers a greater appreciation of his person and work (19:10).” (Tyndale Concise Bible Commentary)
4. CAUSE: “One day we shall hear those four Alleluias, Rev. 19:1; Rev. 19:3-4; Rev. 19:6. They will reverberate to the farthest limits of the universe. They will not be inspired by vindictiveness or revenge, but will be jubilant with the conviction that God has vindicated Himself and has proved that right can conquer wrong; truth, falsehood; and love, hate. One of our chief anticipations when we think of the future, is that God’s character and government of the universe will be amply vindicated.” (F. B. Meyer Commentary)
5. EFFECT: “Contemporaneous with the fall of Babylon will be the marriage of the Lamb. Before He assumes, together with His saints, the task of governing the world, the union of supreme love will have been consummated, and the marriage supper will have been filled with guests. Note from Rev. 19:10 that the angels are our fellow-servants. They hail us as comrades on the condition that we never flinch from maintaining the testimony of Jesus.” (F. B. Meyer Commentary)
6. RECOMMENDATION: Come to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

II. KEY TEXT (The Marriage Supper of the Lamb): “Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, ‘Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure’–for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.‘” (19:6-8)
A. INFERENCE: “And the angel said to me, ‘Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ And he said to me, ‘These are the true words of God.” (19:9)
1. FINDINGS: “Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, ‘You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.’ For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (19:10)
2. CRITERIA: “The apostle offered honor to the angel. The angel refused it. He directed the apostle to the true and only object of religious worship; to worship God, and him alone. This plainly condemns the practice of those who worship the elements of bread and wine, and saints, and angels; and of those who do not believe that Christ is truly and by nature God, yet pay him a sort of worship. They stand convicted of idolatry by a messenger from heaven. These are the true sayings of God; of Him who is to be worshipped, as one with the Father and the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary)
3. CONDITION: “Notice that it does not say the ‘Marriage of the Bride,’ but the ‘Marriage of the Lamb.” That grand event will be not so much the consummation of the hopes of the Bride, as it will be the consummation of the plan of God for his Son, arranged for before the Foundation of the World. Eph. 1:4. (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
4. CAUSE: “There have been many long betrothals in a happy marriage, but the longest this world has ever heard of is that of Christ waiting for His Bride the Church.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
5. EFFECT: “He has been waiting now for over 2020 years, but He will not have to wait much longer.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “See graphic illustration in Blog home page at paragraph 5.III, ‘God’s Strategic Plan, an analog view.’” (Addison, Home Blog Page)

III. KEY TEXT (The Rider on a White Horse): “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.” (19:11)
A. INFERENCE: “His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is call is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of Lords.” (19:12-16)
1. FINDINGS: “Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, ‘Come, gather for the great supper of God, and to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.’ And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.” (19:17-21)
2. CRITERIA: “When He comes again in His Glory, as ‘King of Kings,’ He shall sit astride a magnificent white charger. Oh, you say that is figurative, who ever heard of horses in Heaven? We answer ‘horses and chariots of fire’ were seen in the heavens in the days of Elijah and Elisha, and why not again? 2 Kings 2:11, 6:13-17” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
3. CONDITION: “The riders upon these ‘White Horses’ were clothed in fine linen, white and clean. As this is a dress of the Saints that compose the Bride, it is clear that Christ’s Bride will accompany Him back to the earth, and here we have the fulfilment of the prophecy of Enoch, the seventh from Adam, recorded in Jude 14–‘Behold, the Lord cometh’ with 10,000 of His saints.’” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
4. CAUSE: “Out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron.’” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
5. EFFECT: “The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord, and against His Anointed, saying, ‘Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.’” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “Behold the ‘Day of the Lord’ cometh. (The ‘Day of the Lord’ is the Millennial Day.) When–‘I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle. Then shall the Lord Go Forth and fight against those nations.’” (Zech. 14:1-3)

Revelation 20:1, I. The Thousand Years; II. The Defeat of Satan; III. Judgment Before the Great White Throne

I. KEY TEXT (The Thousand Years): “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.” (20:1-3)
A. INFERENCE: “Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.” (20:4-5)
1. FINDINGS: “The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.” (20:5-6)
2. CRITERIA: “Two companies of believers can be seen. The first are those that were resurrected before ‘The Tribulation–they were caught out or ‘harvested’ at the rapture.’ The second are those that went into The Tribulation–they resisted the mark of the ‘Beast’ and perish as martyrs after the Church has been caught out.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
3. CONDITION: “Both companies ‘lived;’ they were raised from the dead before the resurrection of the body.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
4. CAUSE: “Both companies were to reign with Christ for 1,000 years and make up both companies the first resurrection saints.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
5. EFFECT: “The rest of the dead are not to live again until the 1,000 years are finished. They are the wicked dead. There are two resurrections of the dead, the first of the righteous, and the second of the wicked. The two resurrections are to be 1,000 years apart.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
6. RECOMMENDATION: Don’t miss the first resurrection–keep your lamp lit an retain plenty of oil for the bridegroom will come like a thief in the night.

II. KEY TEXT (The Defeat of Satan): “And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea.” (20:7-8)
A. INFERENCE: “And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (20:9-10)
1. FINDINGS: “During the 1,000 year reign, man shall have a period of probation with all the blessed influences of the Holy Spirit and the presence of Christ Himself.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
2. CRITERIA: “Man has never known and therefore cannot conceive what this world would be like free from Satanic influence.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
3. CONDITION: “There would be no one to stir up hate and passion, and engender strife and turmoil.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
4. CAUSE: “True, man would still have an evil heart of unbelief to contend against, but it would be like a magazine of gunpowder without a spark to ignite it.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
5. EFFECT: “That the evil heart of man has not been eradicated will be evident when at the close of the Millennium Satan is loosed and finds no difficulty in deceiving the nations. Rev. 20:8.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “There will be no universal peace until the Lord comes back. Then the nations will beat their swords into ‘plow-shares’ and their spears into pruning-hooks.” (Mich. 4:3, 4)

III. KEY TEXT (Judgment Before the Great White Throne): “Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.” (20:11)
A. INFERENCE: “And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.” (20:12)
1. FINDINGS: “And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.” (20:13-14)
2. CRITERIA: “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (20:15)
3. CONDITION: “There is not a ‘General Judgment,’ for there is no such thing in the Scriptures.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
4. CAUSE: “The Church is not in this judgment, nor is Israel, for both have been already judged. The Church was judged at the ‘Judgment Seat of Christ,’ and Israel was judged during the ‘Tribulation Period (as a nation).’ The Great White Throne of Judgement is of the dead only.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
5. EFFECT: “There no ‘Books’ are opened; no Book of Life is mentioned there. A universal purge of all evil is needed.” (Larkin, The Book of Revelation)
6. RECOMMENDATION: “Believers must be ready NOW for being caught out in the rapture” (1 Thess. 5:1-11)

Revelation:21:1, I. The New Heaven and the New Earth; II. The New Jerusalem

KEY TEXT (The New Jerusalem): “Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, ‘Come I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.’ And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper clear as crystal. It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed–on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.” (21:9-14)

And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia. Its length and width and height are equal. He also measured its wall, 144 cubits by human measurement, which is also an angel’s measurement. The wall was built of Jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass. The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book; if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come Lord Jesus!” (22:14-20)

  1. SUGGESTION: Examine the link on the Blog Home Page under paragraph III. Graphics for “The Judgments . . .” for a data flow diagram of the three judgments and related Scriptures.

AWARENESS ISSUE: Many see judgment as only a ‘General Judgment’ rather than three separate judgments. Look closely for indicators that the judgment for believers is NOW.
